This week I'm bringing in research for Treasure Planet! A huge part of my childhood, and in my opinion just BEGGING to be given a live-action reboot, especially given the technology available to us now.
The pages begin with a more general view of the Treasure Planet universe, then gradually become more specific. The characters I'm going to be working on are Jim Hawkins, John Silver, and Captain Amelia-- three of the more memorable characters from the film.
Below are slides particular to each character, including casting choice, gists of their arcs/personalities, some of the original concept sketches, and notes about how their design relates to their characteristics.
This is just a starting point for me. I was deciding on some foreign influences that would spice up their designs, but I feel like I'll reach a satisfying choice once I delve into the actual sketching process. The general end-goal of this project for me is to come up with a slightly grittier, but still whimsical interpretation of this world, without trading some of the fantastical elements that make it so unique. I don't know if I have a strong desire to warp it beyond recognition for its own sake.
